Introduction

SFF-8654 (Small Form Factor 8654) is a connector standard developed by the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) committee. It is also known as the Mini Multilane SAS HD connector. SFF-8654 is used to connect SAS or SATA storage devices, such as hard disk drives and solid-state drives, to a SAS controller or motherboard. The connector has a small form factor and a high density, which allows for more connections in a given space. SFF-8654 connectors have four lanes, each capable of transmitting data at rates up to 24Gbps. The connectors also support power delivery, which eliminates the need for separate power cables.
