Introduction

SFF-8654 (Small Form Factor 8654) is a connector standard developed by the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) committee. It is also known as the Mini Multilane SAS HD connector. SFF-8654 is used to connect SAS or SATA storage devices, such as hard disk drives and solid-state drives, to a SAS controller or motherboard. The connector has a small form factor and a high density, which allows for more connections in a given space. It uses a 68-pin interface to connect the drive to the system and supports both SAS and SATA protocols. An SFF-8654 to SFF-8639 cable is a cable that allows you to connect a SAS or SATA storage device with an SFF-8639 connector to a controller or motherboard with an SFF-8654 connector.

The SFF-8654 connector plugs into the RAID controller and the U2 SFF-8639 + SATA Plugs are connected to the U2 SSD HDD. It’s compatible with most U.2 SSDs made by major manufacturers such as Intel, Micron, HGST, Sabrent, and Samsung.
