Description

Introduction

A Centronics 50-pin SCSI pass-through terminator is a device used in SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) setups to terminate a SCSI chain while also providing a pass-through connection for daisy-chaining additional SCSI devices. In SCSI, the Centronics 50-pin connector, also known as a "Centronic 50-pin connector" or simply "Centronics connector," was commonly used.

Termination: SCSI devices are often connected in a daisy-chain configuration, where each device is connected to the previous one in the chain. At the ends of the chain, proper termination is required to prevent signal reflections that can degrade data integrity and disrupt communication. Termination is achieved by using passive or active terminator devices.

Pass-Through: In some setups, you might want to continue the SCSI chain after the termination point to connect additional devices. In such cases, a pass-through terminator is used. This type of terminator includes an extra SCSI port that allows you to connect another SCSI device after the termination. This additional port effectively "passes through" the termination signal to the next device in the chain.

The combination of termination and pass-through capabilities in a single device simplifies the setup and organization of SCSI devices on the bus. Instead of having a separate terminator and a separate connector for the next device, you can use a Centronics 50-pin SCSI pass-through terminator to terminate the chain and provide a connection point for the next device.
